Apple has announced that its iPhone app store has seen over 3 billion app downloads in the 18 months since it launched, with around 2 billion coming since April of last year, alone.
Three billion apps, ranging from fart noises to GPS-based routing applications and all points in between — all except the sexually explicit points, that is.
Apple has stuck to its “no porn” guns throughout, and it remains to be seen whether the more open approach being taken by Google and its Android OS (which has already seen the launch of a porn-specific Android app store) will enable them to horn in on the iPhone’s app market share.
What we here at Pink Visual still don’t quite understand about Apple’s policy is this: iPhone users by the bushel are utilizing the device to access mobile porn sites via the iPhone’s web browser (just ask our server logs!), so there’s clearly a high demand for mobile porn among Apple’s customers. Why not meet that demand via the app store, and make some money in the process?
Either way, we’ll continue to make great mobile porn for smart phone owners regardless of their brand of choice, and simply wait in quiet anticipation for a day when Apple sheds its inhibitions and gives its customers what they want: true, official iPhone apps loaded to the gills with hardcore porn.
